Exposure: Generally accurate exposure, but high contrast.Indoor portraits.

The main issue I had with the 7590's images were thatThis makes for bright, snappy-looking photosIt started showing artifacts in the test patternsImage Noise Low image noise, but a fair bit of subtle subject detail traded away to manage it. In common with a lot of consumer digicams these days, the DX7590 shows very low noise levels, but it's obvious from its photos that it is trading away a lot of subtle (and some not-so-subtle) subject detail to achieve this. This effect isn't too noticeable in shots at ISO 80 and 100, but by the time you get to ISO 200, areas of the subjects characterized by subtle contrast are very visibly smudged-looking. (Marti's hair in the Outdoor and Indoor Portrait shots is a good example of this.) The camera works well enough under good lighting at low ISOs, but I really don't consider it usable at ISO 400, and even ISO 200 is a bit of a toss-up. Closeups: A small macro area with great detail, thoughThe DX7590 Zoom performed prettyResolution was very high, and a lot of fineDetails were fairlyThe DX7590'sAutofocus works down to very low lightAt ISOs 80 and 100, however, images wereAt ISO 800, the camera restricts the imageOverall, I was surprisedApparently, having taken theAnother positive note: The DX7590's autofocusViewfinder Accuracy: A very accurate electronic opticalThe LCD monitorGiven that I like LCD monitors to be as close to 100 percent accuracy asOptical Distortion: Lower than average barrel andOptical distortionThe telephoto endWith a full-autofocus shutter delay that ranges from 0.53 to 1.03 second, the DX7590's shutter response spans a range from fast to average. (Most consumer digicams have shutter lag in the range from 0.8-1.0 second, which is still too slow, in my opinion.) BUT, unlike most cameras I test, the DX7590's continuous-autofocus mode (its default setting) is a good bit faster, delivering shutter lag times at the telephoto end of the lens' range of only 0.

55 seconds, which is a good bit better than the majority of digicams on the market. The 7590's buffer memory holds only two shots at either size, so the camera slows pretty dramatically after snapping only two images. All in all, good shutter response, especially for a long-zoom camera, it'd just be nice if it had a larger buffer memory in single-shot mode. (Note that this paragraph has been revised from the initial posting of this review. I initially gave the DX7590 poor marks for its shutter lag at telephoto focal lengths. It turned out that (a) the roughly 2-meter distance I'd shot the telephoto lag tests at was close enough that it resulted in longer AF times, and (b) I was concentrating on normal single-AF mode, when it turned out that the faster continuous-AF mode was in fact the camera's default. In continuous-AF mode, the camera's shutter response is in fact much better than average.) Battery Life: Very good battery life. With a worst-caseI still recommend purchasing a second battery along with the camera, butPrint Quality: Sharp 11x14 prints, acceptable 13x19 ones, high-ISO much less of an issue in 4x6 prints. Viewing images onscreen only tells part of the story of a digital camera's performance. That's why I encourage readers to download our images and print them out on their own printers. Recently, I've begun adding a Print Quality section to some of my reviews, to hopefully save some of you that trouble. As I write this, I'm just in the early stages of doing this, and am going back to a number of cameras of various types and price points that I've reviewed in the recent past, to see how their prints fare against each other. I looked at the Kodak DX7590 and a few other cameras because I'd been somewhat critical of their noise-suppression technology in my initial reviews, but they're models that have enjoyed very high customer satisfaction ratings among people who own them.

Most users would be quite hard pressed to see it in 8x10s, and even 13x19s, while a little soft-looking, would be acceptable for wall display. What really stood out in the 7590's prints was its excellent, vibrant color. - Its photos were just exceptionally bright and colorful (and quite sharp-looking), yet they invariably looked quite natural despite the high saturation. Skin tones were very nice, healthy-looking without appearing overly pink, and the camera's white balance system just nailed the color in shot after shot. (The minor color casts I noticed on-screen were again much less apparent in high-quality inkjet prints.) Likewise, the rather high contrast that caused the camera to lose detail in strong highlights was part and parcel of the exceptionally vibrant prints it produced. Image noise was still somewhat of an issue at ISO 400, but even there, 4x6 prints would almost certainly be acceptable to the majority of consumers.Check out our free Photo School area! Its fully automatic exposure control performs very well under a variety of conditions, and the range of manual exposure controls extend the camera's capabilities nicely. A wide range of preset scene modes help with special shooting conditions, while the Custom mode is handy for saving a set of frequently-used exposure settings. The 5.0-megapixel CCD captures high resolution images, with plenty of detail to make sharp 11x14 inch prints. The DX7590 is a perfect choice for novices who want to learn a little as they go, while more experienced users will appreciate the more advanced features it has to offer. I'd personally have been happier with the DX7590 though, if its images were a little less contrasty, but have to admit that the vibrant prints I spooled off our studio printer (a Canon i9900) were downright stunning. A Dave's Pick for its vibrant color, accurate white balance, and great ease-of-use.

The large grip on this EasyShare digital camera helps ensure that it is easy to handle, even with just one hand. All of the buttons needed for the DX7590’s operation are easy to reach since they are all located on the right side of this EasyShare camera. This Kodak camera uses one rechargeable lithium-ion battery that slides into its compartment on the bottom of this Kodak DX7590 camera. Photographers can take an average of 300 photos without recharging the batteries when choosing to use the electronic viewfinder on this camera. Photographers find that taking pictures with the Kodak EasyShare is simply accomplished by using the 2.2-inch LCD screen or the electronic viewfinder offering 311,000 pixels. This Kodak camera has many optional settings that can be selected using a large button on the rear of the DX7590 camera. The flash gives off up to 4.9 meters of light, and it is easily controlled by a series of buttons located on top of the Kodak EasyShare camera. The DX7590 can be used in auto mode, allowing the user to automatically capture a beautiful image or to access different modes on the Kodak EasyShare menu. Users can access 16 different scene modes, and once a mode is selected, photographers can learn some additional information about their mode choices. The same button on the DX7590 is used to access the menu for the white balance, automatic exposure, and manual exposure. An ISO emulation setting allows users to choose equivalent settings of 100, 200, 400, and 800.This DK7590 starts up in 3.3 seconds and takes just 2.2 seconds to go from wide-angle to telephoto lens. The DK7590 model offers users the choice of using the burst mode, allowing them to capture up to 2 fps by simply holding their fingers down on the shutter. The DX7590 has a 10X optical lens, so it can capture action from far away. The zoom lens extends about two inches, allowing the user to control the DX7590 effectively.

With so many different operating mode choices on these Kodak cameras, photographers find that there is no need to carry a lot of equipment with them.Photographers can share images with this Kodak using the DX7590’s built-in capabilities to email photos or by choosing to upload them to popular sites without using any software. The photographs can also be easily accessed for editing with favorite photo software on a PC or on a Mac, allowing users to crop the photographs so that they can zoom into the action they were trying to capture. With all of this versatility, it’s little wonder that this camera is popular for a wide range of photographing needs. I am very well pleased with the pictures which compare favorably with any of my 35mm SLR's. Has plenty of pro-quality features and manual options. Also has a socket for an external flash unit, a huge plus for extending flash range not often found on this type of camera. The high quality Schneider lens more than makes up for the lack of megapixels, being that the quality of the lens is what really makes the picture on any camera. If your budget will only allow for a cheap digital camera, a good used one of these is the better choice. Also, battery packs, accesories and SD memory cards are cheap and plentiful for these cameras. I had the DX6490 which works great until my wife left it out in the rain. Was looking for an upgrade with same features. Newer cameras have more MP but lower optical zoom. It worked great, with good image quality, even when enlarged. Kodak is out of business, but the original Owners manual is available online. Well, this is one of those things that just didn't work out. The camera would be sufficient, but had a few problems. First, I noticed the flash failed to flip up when pushing the button. Seems that the little spring had sprung. Second, I tried to use the SD card. The camera failed to accept ANY SD card. I even tried a new card, no luck. The camera did, however, operate an external flash okay.

All in all, I decided that even though the camera did seem to take pictures okay, I decided it just wasn't useful enough to keep and donated it to Goodwill. Has a sports, snow, fireworks, portrait, horizon, etc settings.picture review at the click of a button. Has a slot for a memory card so you can expand memory easily.
