They're everywhere, and in some cases they're so obvious that it's amazing how they were overlooked.<a href=""></a></p><p> Things like improper units being used on graphs, examples being incorrect, etc. They were so common that the class began bringing up suspected typos to the instructor, which actually became a class activity. Yes, working out typos. Aside from the spiking difficulty curve between the material and the problems, also the typos, the book is actually quite amazing. The material is presented neatly and stepped through slowly with a lot of in-depth information. The examples are very detailed. One problem that I had was the lack of perspective in telling the reader the applications in the real world for the circuit elements. No info on where you'd find inductors, their uses, etc. Now, I know what they're used for, but for those who don't bring such a background into the classroom, this can leave the reader feeling a little short. Then again Google can compensate for that. Given the book's shortcomings, I did enjoy it a lot, but I had something that aided my learning which greatly mitigated these shortcomings - the solutions manual and detailed PowerPoint presentations that worked out all exercises and problems. If the instructor has not provided them to us during the course of our studies, my experience would've been substandard at best. I used the book for homework on a daily basis and anytime I would try to read through to understand a topic I would have to read 6 times and then come to the conclusion its just not going to help. Not this book.Moreover, the book doesn't focus too much on a matrix approach and relies to heavily on systems of equations.<a href=""></a></p><p> Granted, matrix methods do involve systems of equations, but the numbers can easily be inserted in a graphing calculator and solved using row-echelon form without necessarily using MATLAB code, but your preference is up to you. In addition, some of the problems from each chapter do require some thought and doing them will provide the student with a lot of insight, especially for exams. Overall, the book is a good buy and provides important key information and rules about how to solve practically any circuit. However, if I had the option to buy it again, I would purchase the pdf version.Many of the explanations are missing important steps (not just algebraic steps).
