Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2008 Chances are fully researching a product before you lay down the cash is an ingrained trait and I suggest you take one additional step. As far as inkjets are concerned, I couldn't find a truly competitive unit from another manufacturer. This printer has a rated duty cycle of up to 7,500 per month and has 50 sheet ADF. 2)Color printing for brochures and flyers. I don't have a need for photo reproduction however Pictbridge and card slots are standard. According to an HP sales rep that front side USB port can also be used to add memory but I haven't had the need to test it yet. 3)Scan capability up to 8.The software is only adequate but it is far superior to the resident facility built in of Vista Ultimate. IRIS OCR is also built in although it is what it is. Italic text might just as well be Sumerian. 4)Fax capability with auto answer and speed dialing. The documentation professes a 50 page capacity. My personal needs seldom exceed five pages. 5)Wired Networking. If you need wireless, take the step up to the next model. This model isn't a compromise, it meets the need. I've only had it in operation for just over a month and in that period, there have been a few moments of exasperation but overall performance outweighs the negatives I have encountered. The estimated ink cartridge capacity is probably ambitious. I printed nearly 1800 pages when it gave out. Compared to laser toners in models I considered with projected output between 1,000 to 1,200 pages, I still come out ahead and ink cartridge replacement cost is about.

As a side note, this unit also has two dual color printheads that will eventually require replacement. Still, they are less expensive than laser drum units. I doubt that will ever approach a cost factor of 1.5 cents per page as is noted in the documentation but once again compared to the similarly priced lasers, this unit outperforms. The auto document feeder is a minor annoyance. More often than not, it pulls two sheets at once so unattended usage is a slight risk. The printer tends to vibrate more than one would anticipate and even for an inkjet, it is somewhat noisy. The L7680 is the mid-level of the 7000 series and a number of concerns noted by other reviewers may have been addressed by purchasing one of the other models. All have the same internal components and performance specifications. The l7580 is primarily an upgradable standalone unit with less memory, lacks ADF as well as direct digital filing and does not support auto two-sided printing. The L77780 adds wireless networking, 32Mb Ram, and a supplemental 350 sheet paper tray. Once the unit is up and running, it is definitely faster than most low to medium end lasers. After powering up, it takes two to three minutes to initialize and interim warm-up is around 12 seconds. The two sided copying is even fun to watch, as the graphics display advises the copier has paused to allow the ink to dry. The keypad is layed out well and the onboard menus are easy to follow and understand. In the end, while I have only had it a month, if I had to go buy another unit today, I would make the same choice. If you use a 7600 series all in one to print on brochure paper, even with HP brochure paper, the Vivera ink smears. All attempts to remedy the problem with the Help Center will prove time consuming, frustrating, and useless.

Although all evidence the problem lies in the chemistry of the Vivera ink - probably the black ink only - no one in customer service will acknowledge this, and in my case actually sent out two replacement printers in an attempt to remedy the problem. Yesterday, after months of going round and round with HP I inserted one, and instantly, my brochure paper designs no longer smeared. WARNING though, I have no idea if other problems may develop because of using a substitute brand, but in any case, HP has a lot of explaining to do. I must admit, my rating of one star is much less for the product, which on the whole performs well, than it is for the ineptness, the stonewalling, and frankly the dishonesty encountered when trying to solve what ultimately was a simple problem. Please try again later. From the United StatesAs far as inkjets are concerned, I couldn't find a truly competitive unit from another manufacturer. Today I tried to download a complete software package which would allow all features to be utilized with my newly installed Windows 7 (64 bit). The HP website says the package will not be ready til January 2010 (if you believe that). Why pay for a expensive printer if it wont do what you want it to do (like scan from the desktop software etc). Microsoft and HP strike again.

For the money, this printer is not worth the price. Luckily these printheads have a separate warranty, so HP has sent me two replacements, promptly and at no charge whatsover. My latest printhead replacement has an expiration date of 2012, so thats a plus. But for the money, I just cant see paying so much for a multi-function printer. (If high quality color printing is your goal, just buy a separate photo printer). I'm hoping this one lasts, but when it goes, I think I'm done with HP. I've had many of their printers, inlcluding several officejets, and they're all pretty lackluster in my opinion. Please try again later. Please try again later. Jason 4.0 out of 5 stars We have had no technical problems and the quality and features are great. We have multiple computers setup to use the 7680 as a fax, scanner, and printer. That would be extremely hard to do any other way. Even better, the front panel allows a lot of control without even using a computer - scan photos or multipage duplex documents to flash card, computer, or network storage, send fax, make copies etc. My only gripe would be the photo scanning speed - it seems to scan the full glass at full resolution as a preview so it takes forever (5 minutes?). It does some cool things from there, like auto-detect multiple photos on the same screen, zoom, rotate etc. We've had a few minor issues which can be expected with a complicated and extremely versatile device like this. Haven't had to call tech support though - we would definitely buy it again. Please try again later. Please try again later. Steven T. Rogers 1.0 out of 5 stars My biggest complaint was high priced ink cartridges before but this was about to change--for the worse. I decide to get rid of some of the clutter on my home office desk and get rid of a HP Photoshop 7000 series printer, a Brother fax machine and a HP 5200 series scanner. My nightmare would begin very soon.

The shipment from Amazon arrived in just a few days from Atlanta and was in good condition. I assembled the machine exactly as they instructions showed but after the installation on my computer the machine failed to work. The problem was simple and I was simple minded but unaware of the issues to come. I called HP and spent 35min. and 53 sec. on the phone with a pleasant but clueless person in what I guessed to be India. Nice but had no knowledge of English or how to listen and solve a problem. Bad combo for a customer service rep for the US company and their US buyers. He finally said he would get me a higher level service person who kept trying to get me to buy a service plan. This was deja vu, as the same thing had happened a year and a half ago when I called and tried to get help for the dial up modem for my laptop at a Sacremento hotel with no wireless internet-wasted an hour and a half that time but my cell phone battery died and saved me from the idiots at HP overseas. I sent emails to HP service and to their executive offices through their company web site. A day later I received an answer that solved the problem. The sender didn't know that they solved the problem but in the next to the last paragraph was info that led me to overide tha lack of a back door on the machine and viola, it worked until the part came several days later. I got a phone message from the HP execs too--unfortunately the oriental voice butchered the number so badly that I couldn't figure it out to return the call. All is well that ends well. Well this isn't over. HP has a problem that they don't reveal or announce in the packaging or on the web site. Evidently Microsoft has issues with this 7600 series machine and installing it so the scanner will work. Short story of a long fix--I had to go into the computer directory and make changes to the system and then reload the software. Great, as it would now scan and print. Not so fast my friend.

It may scan but it can't save it to the computer. Scan as many pages as you want but only the first page will save to the computer. Frustrating as heck. After a week of trying I notice you can scan to a memory device. I do it and it works. Great--problem solved. Just scan to a USB thumb drive and then put it into a port on the computer and save to a file. It works but is cumbersome and time consuming. Oh well, now everything is sort of perfect. NO, not really. Remember, this is a nightmare. The feeder has more traction on one side than the other even if the rollers are cleaned with denatured alcohol. Results? crooked scans and copies. The End. HP sux! I will never buy one of their products again or allow anyone in my companies to purchase a HP product of any type. They finally broke me of a bad habit--buying their products. The END!Please try again later. Please try again later. Michael Thomas 2.0 out of 5 stars In that time I've used most of its major functions, and found it a very capable machine for printing and occasionally sending faxes of no more than a few pages in length. It's worth the price, but I have two major complaints: 1) Putting a stack of 4-10 sheets in the bulk feeder often results in some of them sticking together. If you're faxing several documents, you have to babysit to ensure they all get scanned. 2) The software is extremely clunky. Maybe I just haven't learned how to use it completely yet, but scanning a document and getting access to the scanned file was a real pain. I'd much rather use the Windows scan wizard. Otherwise I found printing to be fast and crisp, and faxing flawless (except for the grabby page feeder). I have only scanned a couple of simple line images so I can't attest to scanning quality. I would NOT buy it again and indeed I would never again buy an HP printer (after having owned several since the late 1980s). The printer is kind of buggy.

It crashes at least a couple of times a month and needs to be re-connected to my computer. The interface is terrible, with the most frequently used functions hidden in a confusing bunch of menus. I could go on. But my main complaint is that HP's software is just abysmally bad. The print driver itself is OK, if all you want to do is print. But if you want to use this all-in-one machine as a scanner, then good luck to you, because it's almost impossible to get it to work at all, much less to produce an acceptable scan. To clarify the scan quality is mediocre for black-and-white pages, such as text, and totally awful for color photos. But even if the scan quality were better, you're much better off buying a cheap scanner (like I did), if only to avoid using HP's ridiculous software. HP software how do I hate thee. Let me count the ways. First it's a resource hog, tying up your machine and slowing it down when you're using it. Second it's not at all intuitive and getting it to do what you want is a long and frustrating process of clicking inscrutable, unfamiliar icons and choosing non-intuitive commands that don't do what you want and leave you with results that make no sense. Whatever happened to just scanning an image and having it save into the directory of your choice. Why can't it be simple, HP. Why complicate it with this stupid console approach. Argh! Third it conflicts with other software on my system. My computer ran better and faster after I uninstalled the HP software. Fourth it takes forever to load and switch between modes. Fifth it seems to be more about marketing HP products than about operating the one you already (unfortunately) own. OK there's my off-the-cuff rant. Don't buy this printer or any HP printer if you value ease of use. Please try again later. Please try again later. David from Houston 1.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately the L7680 printer has been a big disappointment. I bought my unit about a year ago (March '08) and the first one arrived DOA.

Amazon was great and replaced it very quickly, the second one worked for about 45 days and then failed. After working with HP support for several days they finally replaced it under their warranty program. Since I received the second unit it has been printing fine and has very clear color and black and white print. But, it continues to make popping sounds in the paper feeder and regularly tells me paper tray is empty when it has 50 or 75 sheets. The construction also seems to be very flimsy, the door to the ink cartridge area has a small plastic latch which cracked after several months and I now have to use a piece of tape to hold the door shut. I will continue to buy HP PC's and storage but will think twice before I purchase more any more printers. Please try again later. I should have paid more attention. Pros: very fast print speed for text and photos, very good text output quality, nice feature set (standalone fax, scans to network, auto duplex) Cons: limited paper handling (no manual feed slot), poor photo quality, buggy installer, installation conflicts, color shift in color copies I spent at least 20 hours, including a 3 hour HP tech support call, trying to get the printer software to install on 2 of 3 WinXP and 1 of 2 Vista computers. There is a conflict that neither I nor tech support could identify or workaround. In addition, there is a bug in the installer: it will not run more than once for the same printer, even if the install failed, requiring a complete uninstall and manually removing registry entries between attempts. After 3 hours, the HP tech support person decided there was something wrong with my router, and I had to open ports in order to get the network install to work, even though I told her I had installed it successfully on a third WinXP PC and a brand new Vista PC. She agreed to call me back in an hour after I had reconfigured my router, but never did so.

I had the same install problems with the latest software downloaded from the HP web site (8.0.1) and the CD that came with the printer (8.0.0). I finally installed it with a USB cable, just to test the print quality. Text output was very good and very fast. Photo output was poor, with visible banding and lines that did not appear when the same images were printed on my old (much slower) Canon printer, but also quite fast. A color copy showed an obvious orange shift of red text on the original. If you want mediocre photos printed quickly, this may be your printer. The fax functionality works fine, although I'd like to store incoming faxes and forward them to a PC on the network; you have to print them as they are received. I'm returning it. Next time I will pay more attention to the negative reviews. Please try again later. Please try again later. Brooklyn CPA 4.0 out of 5 stars It is large but fast in most functions. As usual, double sided printing is a little slow. Overall the machine is solid. Copies are sharp, clear and fast. Scanning was excellent but only worked on my XP. I used the stand alone fax function without a problem. Both my computers are connected via my home ethernet system with the laptop on a wireless connection and the Windows 2000 connected with a wired connection. This means I can print from anywhere in the house without requiring a shared connection. The device is pretty large so you will need to find a spot for it and then park it there forever. Note for Windows 2000 users: I could not get the scan interface to work despite installing, uninstalling and reinstalling the software four times, which is the reason for the 4 star instead of 5 star rating. The scanner seems to work with Vuescan software. Please try again later. Please try again later. Alexandria Tristram 1.0 out of 5 stars I had had the printer three days and it didn't ever work - no, I don't want a newly refurbished unit.

Second printer (assuming it was a fluke, it had really good reviews) - flimsy pieces stick out in odd directions and are easily broken (within four months), double-sided copy feed doesn't really work, but it isn't in a convenient spot in our office so maybe we could have played with it more to make it work (immediate), after a year or so, there is a significant color flaw - magenta print head is losing ink much faster than others and copies look green in a blotch across the print area. Drivers rather than print head. The print head seemed to be clogged with magenta ink. Would we get two bad print heads in a row. For anyone: The printer often stops in the middle of a print run for an extended cool down. Very time consuming, very frustrating. The last 5 pieces of paper to-be-printed-on are usually wasted. The paper feed grabs them all and shoves them through in a fan, so none of the pages has all of the print. That's extremely frustrating when you are in a rush. It is also very likely to be followed by the shut down. The document paper feed died entirely after 2 yrs, it had been erratic for many months. Then this past week (2.5 years) - the printer started a new terrible flaw, very flawed print in black and white with big bands of blank paper. I think it is more trouble with paper feeding - printer seems to be jerking the paper as it prints. From the way the output looks, you would think it was a bad drum - of course it has no drum since it is an inkjet. I am going to take a vacation from HP. A lot of their copiers have these cute little fold out pieces of plastic that have to be pushed and pulled and snapped just-so-much to work. The main printer case is solid, but those pieces snap just-further all to easily. Please try again later. Please try again later. Hyundai HL720-3 Wheel Loader Workshop Repair Service Pro.
