This is not the keypad used to arm and disarm; instead, look for a tan metal box about 16” square. It will probably be tucked away in a closet or laundry room, and may or may not have a locking lid. It could just be screwed shut and you will need a screw driver. If you don’t have a key, look on top of the panel. Or, check the “catch-all” drawer in the kitchen. It will be smaller than a house key, with teeth cut on only one side. Once the lid is open, locate the panel information. Most lids have a wiring diagram sticker on the inside of them. Usually the make and model number is in a larger bold font than the rest of the text. (Please see some sample pictures below.) If there is not a sticker present, look directly on the control panel itself. The control panel looks like a mother board that would be in a computer. It almost always has a green background. (Please see the sample pictures below.) Check the selected areas for model numbers. We're gonna be discussing the differences between the 6160 and the 6150 keypads. The 6160 is an alphanumeric keypad. The 6150 is a fixed English keypad. So we're gonna go ahead and take you over to the table, and show you the differences between these two, and hopefully you'll learn a little bit on the way. All right. Follow me over. The older version is the 6160, right here, which is an alphanumeric display, and the 6150, right here, which is a fixed English keypad. There are differences between these two.

We get a lot of questions about, you know, what are the major differences basically. The 6160 alphanumeric, as you can see here on the screen.because it's an alphanumeric, it shows you alpha characters, and it will show you numbers as well. A lot easier to program with this one too because you can see everything in your programming sessions. This one, the 6150, as you can see, is pretty much blank right now. It's not displaying the alpha characters like it did on the 6160. Now the 6150 will have some fixed words for like arming state and some trouble conditions, but you're not gonna get a full alpha display like you will on the 6160. So the 6150 is also a little smaller than the 6160. You can get the regular keypad, the one with the built-in wireless receiver or the voice announcing keypad in the 6160 or the 6150. The 6160s are a little bit more popular. I wouldn't mind having a 6150 as a secondary, as long as I have a 6160 to program with. I'll show you why here in a second. I have a contact back here that we learned into this system, so we could show you the differences in the display. Let me get it better, so you can better see it here. I'm gonna trip this zone.Disarm, ready to arm, on the 6160, and then it goes back to a blank screen on the 6150. Now I'm gonna take you into programming here, so you can see what it looks like on each keypad. You push your installer code and 800 to get in. Let's go ahead and go to the zone.section.let's go to the section for zone programming. So that's why we always recommend for people to get at least one 6160 with their hard-wired alarm system, because it makes programming a lot easier. You're gonna be able to see your programming sections, all the stuff in your programming sections. Not quite sure what that means if you've never done this before, so you'll be pretty much programming blind. Either keypad will work on a VISTA SERIES system. You can use them in conjunction with each other.

You can get a 6160 for your main keypad, and then 6150 for your secondaries, or you can use 6160 throughout your entire system. You can have a 6160 as every keypad. It kind of depends on how you wanna set it up, what your price points are. You can also use these keypads in conjunction with the Tuxedo keypads or the 6280 touch screens. Mix and match your keypads, folks, but whatever you do, make sure you have at least one 6160, so you can program your system. It makes it a lot easier, trust me. Both keypads have the same keys. They have the same function keys. It's just all in the display. If you have any other questions about these, just make sure you give us a call. But it's been great being here with you, guys. Thanks a lot. We're gonna head back over, so I can say some closing words. All right. We're back. And, as you can see, there are a few differences between the two keypads. We usually recommend the 6160 alphanumeric keypad for programming your Honeywell VISTA SERIES system. So definitely take that into consideration, at least have one of those when you're gonna program. If you have any more questions about these keypads or what they can do, give us a call, 888-811-0727, and choose a technical support menu option, option number two on the phone menu. Those guys will be glad to help you. My name is Jon Boroughs. Thanks for being with me today, guys. We'll talk to you soon. The following guide has been prepared with the assumption that you're installing a new (or returned to factory defaults) Vista 20P. Only the settings that need to be changed from their factory settings are addressed, but if you're paying attention to the programming process you can quickly learn the basics of Honeywell programming that will allow you to make custom changes to any and all areas of your Honeywell Vista 20P Security System. The V20P60RFPK kit at Amazon includes a 6160RF keypad that has the required custom alpha display along with an internal wireless receiver for communication with wireless devices. The less expensive 6160 keypad is the same model minus the wireless receiver. Either can be used to program your Honeywell System. The programming of a Vista 15P and Vista 20P are almost identical. The Vista 20P is capable of having two partitions, so some programming options require a duplicate setting to be made for the second partition.

The Vista 15P is only capable of having one partition, so the settings affecting partition two (or the selection of partitions) do not apply. That being said, if you understand the programming of a Vista 20P, then you understand the programming of a Vista 15P, so the above tutorials will be helpful to you. The kit I bought doesn't have a custom alpha keypad, can I use a fixed alpha keypad to program my system? Yes and No. You can used a fixed alpha keypad (like a 6150) to program basic settings, but you won't be able to do menu programming to change the programming of zones or add wireless devices. The neat thing about setting up your own system is that you can program doors to act like motion detectors, or program motion detectors to act like doors. Most homes only have a couple of locations where an intruder is likely to break-in. An apartment or condo is likely to only have one area where an intruder is likely to break-in. Put simply, you may be able to get away with purchasing just one or two motion detectors while still being amply protected. Roy 5.0 out of 5 stars I have to replace this exact Honeywell 6150 keypad because the buttons were sticking. After much online research, here's how I did it and it worked just fine. It will be anywhere from 00 to 31. The number is important later 2. Use the notches on the bottom (insert a screwdriver to release the latches). 3. Remove the front panel (the wall bracket can stay, since the new front panel will match it perfectly) and then remove the four thin wires, noting which terminal they were screwed into, making sure they do not touch each other, and removing the black wire LAST. 4. Attach the wires to the same terminals on the new panel in the same places, again with the black lead LAST. If the number on the display matches the number on the panel you had removed, the unit will work. It should work and continue to do so.I called the supplier and they verified the Honeywell Ademco 6150 is the recommended keypad. I ordered it and had in in 2 days. I installed in a few minutes by connecting the 4 color coded wires to the appropriate connection points on back of panel. As noted in other comments, the mounting holes even matched up. I was so relieved that there was no programming required as the Vista panel is the brains of the system not the keypad. Good LuckIt took all of 15 minutes. All you have to do is cut off power to your system (find the plug and unplug it, and remove the terminals from the internal battery). Then, it is a matter of hooking up 4 wires. These are extremely thin wires so it takes some care to get them installed into the terminals and the screws tightened down very fully. No need to reprogram anything.

There are good videos on the Web showing most of the process. Also a good idea to call your alarm company beforehand and tell them you are going to have a power interruption for about a half hour.I wanted another one on the wall downstairs. I wired it just like the others but I couldn't get it to work. I needed to input a code within fifteen seconds or so after powering up. Needless to say, I didn't know I was being timed and I didn't know the proper code. If I'd done a little more research it may have worked for me without getting my alarm guy involved. As others have written, installation, as described in other reviews, is simple. However, on powering up the system, the keypad was responsive, enabling me to arm and disarm the system, however, display, though illuminated, was blank. Tried reseating the wires, ensuring address was set correctly, powering down and then powering up the system multiple times, nothing worked. After much frustration, I discovered the problem. The display was not making adequate contact with the circuit board. To fix this, I disengaged the board from the housing by depressing the two plastic retention clips at the bottom of the board. Once the clips were released, the board can be removed, leaving the display. The display sits in a clear plastic housing that can be lifted out of the case. I lifted this out and then separated the display from the clear housing. Then I replaced the circuit board, again making sure that the display contacts were engaged against the contacts on the circuit board. Success. On powering up the system, display worked properly. So, if you find the keypad works but no display, check to ensure that there is good contact between the circuit board and the display. The mounting bezel on the 6150 is slightly larger so, I couldn't use the previous one but, the mounting holes lined up. Installation was a snap, four wires (red, black, green and yellow) and this replacement keypad works properly.

It has four additional push buttons the previous model didn't have. I don't know what they are for and probably will never use them. From start to finish, installation took about two minutes.Numbers are nice and big and both the numbers and display brightly lit, easy to operate and not super noisy when you press the keys. Easy to program, totally worth the money. This is the second one of these we've purchased as a replacement, made the repeat purchase because we were super happy with the first one (we were just waiting to replace this second keypad)Instructions on box.In order to navigate out of this carousel please use your heading shortcut key to navigate to the next or previous heading.
