I probably will not be making too many cuts that are not 90 or 45 degrees, so no biggie once again. Overall, I am quite happy with this joiner and feel like I got a great deal on it. Out of the box, the fence would not lock parallel to the blade. This is absolutely crucial in a BJ, because any error in parallelism is doubled on account of the way the mating slots are cut. It still took testing to get it to stay straight, and that was not easily repeatable. Unless you use this tool at only one setting, and are willing to futz patiently to get it right, it will not be a practical device to have around. The DeWalt handle section of the body is better designed than the Freud's. When I grasp this one to use it handheld, the part of the base that comes back hits my fingers. That said, there is ample power, the base slides nicely and is pretty snug. I would never buy one of the Harbor Fright imports, but I expected at this price point to get something a little closer to practical in terms of occasional use. Haddad 5.0 out of 5 stars It is easy to setup, all the important parts are solid cast metal and no flimsy fit here.If you are having fit problems with the thickness of the slots, look at the biscuits you are using and not at this machine. This joiner cuts extremely accurate and consistent slots but biscuits can vary in thickness if they are of poor quality or if they have been exposed to the air and have absorbed some moisture. The best biscuits I used have been the Bosch ones but they are usually significantly more expensive than the Porter Cable ones. If you use the lower quality biscuits, make sure you check them for fit before assembly time. You will end up throwing some biscuits (maybe 5%-10%) but that is not bad considering the price difference. However, if you are doing some fine work, go with the high quality biscuits because the difference may show then. Adjustment is very easy and cuts are very accurate.

I don't know what was the issue encountered by the person who could not adjust the blade but all the tools that came with the joiner fit fine on mine but I would use my higher quality tools when I work on machinery rather than the inferior ones that come with the machines with very few exceptions. If you are doing woodworking and using a plate joiner, you must have a few tools around to take care of minor adjustments. Dust collection is practically non existent unless you connect a shop vacuum to the unit in which case you will not get any external dust. All the biscuit joiners (and for that matter all woodworking machinery) will have dust problems if you decide to use the built-in collection mechanisms. The noise level is high but that is the case with almost every machine in a woodworking shop so you better be wearing your ear plugs. The placement of the switch could be better as one reviewer pointed out but you get used to it after a while. The plastic case is blow mold and never closed right, like my cheap Chinese tool cases. Initially the I thought the cutting blade was missed aligned or too wide since the biscuits fit very loose in the slots even with plenty of glue in it, but now, after a few years, its ok, nice and tight with the same box of 1,000 biscuits I purchased elsewhere. The stick-on angle scale came off but the factory gave me a new one - never needed it anyway, all my cuts are at 90 degrees. If you have different thickness boards, the height adjustment on the fence could be a PIA since there are no fine adjustments like the other biscuit cutters.

You need to make a few test cuts to make sure the slot is in the middle of the board or where you wanted it - I don't trust the scale. I have no problems with the dust bag, just empty it every 10 cuts - yes, lots chips form those slots. I find that I use it without the fence most of the time. I clamp my work to the extension table on my table saw and just slide the biscuit joiner on the table surface. It is easy to hit your marks on edge joints this way. For right angle joints, I use a guide clamp (like a Tru-Grip CT24C) squared on the workpiece (i.e. the side of a bookcase) so the base of the joiner rests where the bottom of the shelf will be. It is easy to make a verticle plunge into the board resting on the table. The depth of cut is easy to fine tune, and there are positive adjustment stops for three sizes of biscuits. I have run this machine quite a bit and never had a problem, but it has sounded like a loose bearing from the time it was new. The fence could use some improvement, but that is easy to work around. As the blade spins at 14,000 rpm it's perfectly balanced, too. BUT TAKE NOTE. the hub IS thinner than the original PC blade. I'll definitely buy another one of these in another 30 years - if I'm still around.Its a Huge improvement to OEM Makita blade. Knowing Freud, I expected tis blade to be better than the Makita blade, but it is not just a little bit better, its like night and day. See pictures (The carbide on the Freud is MUCH thicker and the blade actually has Freuds siver Ice coating, not the black finish in the picture on Amazon). The thick carbide allows this blade to be resharpened several times. I think my Joiner will die before this blade is worn out. It also cuts much smoother than the Old blade. The OEM blade was better when it was new, but was never as good as this blade.A tight fit is crucial. The fried corporation apparently cannot hold accurate tolerances or they simply do not care. The kerf of the two Frued biscuit joiner blades I purchased was so oversized that the biscuits would swim in the slots making a tight accurate assembly impossible. I had to send them out and have a sharpening shop regrows the carbide tips at a cost that exceeded that of the blades themselves. I guess you get what you pay for.

Do yourself a favor and buy a high quality blade from Lamello or anyone else who cares about quality and accuracy.I have a Dewalt jointer and in comparison, it's blade cuts, but without the efficiency and precision that this thing delivers. Cost to quality ratio was outstanding. Other replacement blades are asking for 2 to 3 times as much in cost.With my dial calipers, I measured the blade about 0.01 inches too thin to be held by the arbor nut and flange. One can easily get pre-cut shim stock for arbors to take that up. Myself, I used a piece of polyester-backed sandpaper scrap that easily measured twice that, trimmed it and easily snugged it down. On first use, I thought the blade was slipping, but it wasn't. It was just that sharp and quiet compared to the (admittedly worn) stock blade. Kind of giggled over the dramatic difference in cutting speed and quality. The only resistance I could feel was the return spring in the joiner itself. Cut several test slots in plywood and hardwood, and the biscuits all fit snug. Highly recommended. If you have a PC 557 joiner, fear not. Get the blade and a shim or follow the advice to grind down the arbor a touch, and get cutting.I've been using flood saw blades almost exclusively for many years now. The blade I received was, unlike the photo, uncoated, but in the factory wrapping.This blade cuts just like it should.
