I kept having an error with the console turned on. The controller is back working again. In the EVO Customizer PC program they have removed the hotlinked Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty profile presets that would be available to use if you were connected to the Internet. This is nothing you cannot setup and save as a profile on your own, but it was nice to have available. Back to using my controller for turbo, button remapping and a custom button macro I use with the Autofire Feature. The Xbox 360 System Update released on June 12, 2012 has DISABLED the use of the Datel EVO Turbo Programmable Wireless Xbox 360 Controllers, the ones with the LCD Screen. Once Synced to the console the EVO controller will immediately SHUTDOWN and will continue to shutdown if I attempt to turn it back on. This occurs whether I am using batteries or powering the controller via USB (PC or Console). The only way the controller still stay on is if the console is unplugged, which isn't a solution.

They are all the same exact product except for the color (black or red) and the name on the packaging (Wildfire EVO or Turbofire EVO). All the controllers are region free and can be used on any Xbox 360.Overall I'd say the Datel EVO controller is the most value for the money spent in terms of the available turbo speeds and programmability with the additional features as a bonus. The EVO is definitely Datel's best Xbox 360 controller to date. I strongly recommend getting the EVO over any of the others. Overall Datel's EVO controller has the LARGEST VARIETY of Preset options of any Turbo Programmable controller ever available for the Xbox 360. Compared to Datel's previous controllers we definitely recommend going with the EVO as they have fixed a number of the issues that were present with their past controllers as well as the fact they added all the new options. One of the more important improvements is being able to use a Turtle Beach or similar gaming headset and actually be able to communicate with people over Xbox LIVE. The previous Turbofire 2 (Wildifre 2) had an issue where you couldn't hear anyone on Xbox LIVE when using a gaming headset, but apparently that too has been resolved in a firmware update that was released in November 2011 (Customizer version 1.6). The EVO has that functionality out of the box. IMPORTANT: Read through the controller's manual and the Customizer EVO (software) manual as just about everything you want to know about the controller and software can be answered in those manuals. The EVO has up to 8 different speeds which can be adjusted using the slider on the screen or through the PC software. Datel has not documented the actual button presses per minute of the various speeds. If the game you are playing has an in game firing rate cap, you can adjust the speed to one that works with the game and doesn't go over the limit. You can program up to four different EVO Customizer Features to the controller at any given time.

There are a variety of Activating options for each of the Features that can be programmed from within the PC software or manually on the controller. You can also adjust the color the icons from within the PC software. The Activation options are: (F1 and F2 are the two grey cicular buttons on the back of the controller on either side of the battery pack.) Press F1 to toggle feature. Hold F1 to activate feature. Press F2 to toggle feature. Hold F2 to activate feature. Always active. CUSTOMIZER EVO PC SOFTWARE: The controller DOES NOT include the Customizer EVO PC Software. You will have to download this as well as a PDF of the Customizer EVO manual from Datel's Codejunkies web site. Codejunkies is Datel's web store and Support web site for their products. You'll find the software in the Support section under the Xbox 360 category. The Customizer EVO PC Software is a single executable file. It doesn't appear to install any files, as it immediatley starts up when you first click on it. Download the file and DELETE the old Customizer file. The software will update the firmware on the controller when it is connected. If you do, then try using a different USB port or a different computer. THE CONTROLLER ITSELF: The controller weighs in at 8 oz.As well they have added to quick access Feature buttons on either side of the battery pack on the back of the contorller for quickly activating and toggling the various Features. In order to access the Xbox 360 Guide you have to press and hold the Home button for a couple of seconds. We continue to recommend the Grip-It analog stick covers to give a better grip. Otherwise you'll probably find yoruself having problems when your hands get sweaty as well as during normal gamplay trying to hold onto the sticks to run and nagivate the game. If you like playing shooters, you really need to get the Grip-It stick covers.

We've had no issues with running in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 either from a stationary position or while already moving. The sticks and the game do not get jammed up. The triggers are a bit stiffer than an OEM controller from Microsoft but they are wider giving you more room to press down on the button. You can also adjust the sensitivity of the triggers in the Customizer EVO PC program. The bumpers are nice and big too, about 2x as deep compared to Microsoft's OEM controller. The D-PAD is similar in style to the OEM Microsoft controllers but there is more a raised area for the directions on the D-PAD compared to Microsoft's OEM controller. We DO NOT recommend using the Kontrol Freeks on Datel's controllers because even though they fit onto the Analog Sticks they are NOT secure and will spin around freely. This can be quite annoying during gameplay. The Kontrol Freeks are great on OEM controllers from Microsoft but DO NOT use them on Datel's controllers. THE LCD SCREEN: The LCD screen will display all 4 of the Feature buttons and offers you the abilty to manually adjust those four features, much like you would on the PC using the Customizer EVO program. It can also be used to display the Custom Image graphic. Additionally the LCD screen displays the controller's player number; 1, 2, 3 or 4 as well as a battery life indicator that flashes when you are running low. You can adjust the brightness of the LCD screen as well as turn it off completely when not in use to conserve battery life. Datel includes one of these cables but it's only 2' feet long. You will want to pickup a much longer Mini USB cable. The one we use is 6.5' feet long is from by AmazonBasics line of affordable elctronic accessories. The EVO uses two AA batteries. The Mini USB port and cable can be used to power the controller whether or NOT you have any batteries in the holder. This controller can also use Microsoft and 3rd Party Xbox 360 rechargeable battery packs.

You are definitely going to want to use rechargeable batteries or play wired using a longer mini USB cable. Then again, this can be said of any gaming controllers. Batteries can be expsenvies so we strongly recommend getting a few sets of rechargeable AA batteries with a charging unit and a long mini USB cable. Turning off the LCD screen when you aren't needing it can probably also help to conserve battery life. It's worth noting that the Turbo Fire EVO works with 3rd party gaming headsets such as those from Turtle Beach and most likely those from other companies. We can confirm they work with the Turtle Beach X41 headset as that is the headset we are currently using. You can hear everyone talking on Xbox LIVE and others can hear you over Xbox LIVE when using the EVO Controller. You can also use a regular Xbox LIVE headset with this controller for Xbox LIVE voice communication. As of Customizer version 1.1 there are two presets, one for Battlefield 3 and another for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. These presets use the existing options offered in the Customizer program. The Presets option is found in the top left hand corner of the Customizer program. This saves you time from having to recreate your setup everytime you want to swap out the Features for a different game. You can choose any combination of the 18 whether you want all four features to use the same background or a different one for each, etc. etc. Version 1.1 added 9 additional from the original 9 included in version 1.0. As of yet, you cannot create your own background images. COMBO SEQUENCES: The Combo Sequences feature allows you to assign a sequence of pre-programmed controller commands to a single button. You are limited to the selection of games and combos found within the program. You have select up to 18 Combo Sequences for use at any given time on on the controller. The Combos are essentially the combo moves for fighting games, passwords and multi button pressing scenaries for various games.

It basically makes things easier if you have these particular games. You cannot create your own Combos. Slow down or speed up the sway of the Analog Sticks. RAPID FIRE: Using the Rapid Fire feature you can adjust the repeat rate at which your controller buttons will fire when held. Use the slider to pick the rate that works best depending on the game you are playing. There are 8 different speeds. You can set the Rapid Fire to the following buttons: A, B, X, Y, LS, LB, LT, RS, RB, RT, START and BACK. In order to use the turbo on the D-PAD you have to REMAP the D-PAD button(s) to another button that can be programmed to the turbo. For Example: Remap the UP on the D-PAD to the Y button, then set the Rapid Fire or Auto Fire to the Y button so that when the Y button is pressed or held down it will do the action of the UP on the D-PAD using the Rapid Fire or Auto Fire speed. Datel has stated they will be adding the D-PAD buttons to the regular Rapid Fire and Auto Fire Features at a later date. Until that time, remap the D-PAD as previously described. LOW RECOIL: The Low Recoil feature allow you to adjust the strength of the rumble motors in your controller. REMAP: Using the Button Remapping feature allows you to simply and easily change what each button on your controller does. As of 1.1 this can be used to remap the D-PAD to a button that can be se to the Rapid Fire or Auto Fire so you can TURBO any of the D-PAD buttons, as previously described. You can remap the following buttons: LT, LB, LS, RB, RT, RS, A, B, X, Y, and the D-PAD (Up, Down, Left and Right) to one another. You cannot remap the GUIDE, BACK or START buttons. For the Analog sticks, it is the clicking down button that can be remapped and NOT the directional controls. Y-AXIS REVERSE: Use the Y-Axis Reverse feature to invert the Y-Axis (up and down) on either the left or right analog stick. This is useful in first-person or flying games that don't provide this functionality.

SENSITIVITY: You can adjust the sensitivity of both the left and right analog sticks and also the left and right triggers. LEFT HANDED MODE: Left handed mode allows you to swap over the main groups of buttons for left handed players. This can be used as an alternative to remapping these items. Remapping the Analog Sticks remaps the directional functionality as well as the clicking down buttons. Swapping Options: D-PAD buttons with A, B, X and Y. Left and Right Analog Sticks. Left and Right Triggers and Bumper Buttons. CUSTOM IMAGE: Use the custom image feature to upload your own image to be displayed on the controller screen. The images can be either PNG or JPG format files but they must be at least 160 pixels across by 128 pixels high. If you DO NOT want to waste one of the FOUR Features on the controller on the Custom Image, you can set the Custom Image to always on, go back to the controller to set it up and then go back to the Customizer PC Software and replace the Custom Image Feature to something else. As long as the Custom Image was set to Always On it'll still remain on the controller. AUTO FIRE: The Auto Fire feature provides the same functionality as Rapid Fire except that you don't even have to press a button. You can set the Auto Fire to the following buttons: A, B, X, Y, LS, LB, LT, RS, RB, RT, START and BACK. FINAL THOUGHTS: The Datel EVO controller is probably the best controller we've ever had and is currently the one to get for the Xbox 360. Just to clarify, I do not work for Datel and I purchased the Datel EVO controller with my own money. There hasn't been a whole lot of detailed information about this product so I figured I'd compile a bunch of information I've gotten from my own observations in using the product as well as the information made available in the manuals and the PC software used in conjunction with this controller.
