Any help is appreciated. I want to get into bios modding but I have no idea what I am looking at most of the time. I have a few questions. Here are my questions: 1. Are bioses somewhat universal or are they motherboard specific? 2. I have such a weird motherboard that I am not sure if there will be a modded bios for it (probably not). Are there any other alternatives if there aren't any modded bioses? 3. If I have a motherboard that has an American Megatrends bios on it can I install any AMI bios? 4. Is there a place that you would recommend for learning about bioses. If you look this PC up on HP's website it will say it has a IPM17-dd Odense motherboard which isn't the one I have. Mine is green and doesn't have an M.2, not sure if it matters.The attachment below is what I was using, and the flash was interrupted because I flipped the switch on the PSU; now, before you call me out on my stupidity, let me just tell you that it appeared to not be having any success at writing to the BIOS because each block it supposedly tried to write to failed, so I assumed the data would have been preserved as is, but when I booted the rig back up, it would be one, then another beep that was like two rapid beeps with a strangler of a beep, and the moments later it'd beep like it was a computer developed epilepsy (Some kind of loop?). It appears to display different behavior with a USB stick with binary files on it, but keep in mind, I haven't tested it that would still be the case with a USB stick with nothing on it; my theory is that it's seeking a binary, rom, or another file that would be suitable for writing to the BIOS. Nothing displays on the screen, and there doesn't even seem to be an attempt for it to display video. The other option is find someone local that'll let me use a rig to hot flash the BIOS, which is doubtful and unlikely to happen, so that's already ruled out.

There aren't any local computer repair places that are local and within reasonable range for me to get to as I don't even have transportation because my life is in shambles, so that ain't an option either.I have the AMD version of the Lenovo G50-45 laptop. It has an Insyde BIOS. Like many others, I need to get past the whitelist and understand this particular BIOS must be physically flashed. I have all the hardware and have successfully read and flashed the chip several times. The problem is my modified BIOS file will not work and I have to revert to the original dump. I've tried two different ways. First, I tried stopping the whitelist following these directions. That didn't work. The laptop won't start at all. Then I tried to just replace the hardware IDs of my old WiFi card with the new one using this guide. That didn't work either and again the laptop won't turn on. Both times, when I flash the original backup back to the chip, it works perfectly and boots up. I'm guessing there is some checksum that realizes this is not an official BIOS rom. I even took a look at this thread, but didn't get to far as I couldn't find the keyword TCPABIOS. Soooooooooo. Can anyone help me with either pointing out what I'm doing wrong or helping my mod the BIOS correctly. I have attached my bios read file along with the latest Lenovo BIOS version 2.13. The unlocked ROM named NEW.ROM. But it still have some menu to be hidden, like EFI Boot menu. I used Uefitool.exe to load the NEW.ROM and extract the SetupUtility module and saved as a FFS file. Then use Universal IFR extractor.exe to de compile it to a TXT file. I use WinHex.exe to open the FFS file, then replace 0A 03 00 27 02 with 0A 03 00 28 02, it replace more then 70 times. Saved the modified FFS file and use the Uefitool to replace the SetupUtility module with this FFS file. The hacked ROM was saved as NEW28.ROM. You can use Insyde H2OEZE-W.exe to change the version and modify the the default setup Values.

However it doesn’t. After reading a bit more there is only one version of a Xeon that works on the P6T. I consulted Asus about it and the agent I spoke to stated that the W3690 would not work and was adamant that it is not the same as the I7 990X. In anycase my bios version was quite old (2009) so I updated it with additional support for the 990x cpu to the still old 2010 version. I’ll give the w3690 a whirl tomorrow to see if it works. OEM's get away with it as they don't expect customers to open their computers for the most part.Also someone earlier posted an R01 file after R02 failed for me using the floppy disk recovery mode trick but it still just sticks on it sounding like the floppy is doing something at startup, then the green light just stays on and makes no moving noise. (It was doing this because the autoexec.bat strings were incorrect) If you want to get into floppy recovery mode with this mobo u have to take the cmos battery out for 5 min and do a jumper reset on the board, sometimes it won't let you go into that mode, especially after you have tried different.bins to flash. The funny thing in all this for me is I was troubleshooting this board for a customer and it turns out the common problem in this board is the cmos battery needs to be replaced if it wont post. I fixed that problem and I was trying to update the bios so I could run a Athlon 2650e 15w cpu and have a cpu-string for it. The main thing we need going forward is original bios dumps of both rev1 and rev2 as there is no original release bios file for these boards anywhere online.I have a feeling this problem will continue for a while with Windows 8 supporting this board in most likelyhood as the Athlon X2 is still viable in today's PC world as the e-350 fusion boards from AMD use the K8 architecture cpu's like the Athlon64 X2 but shrunk to 32nm from 65nm for power savings. EDIT- Just to let everyone know what the real problem in all this is. Acer uses it own command strings that have to be strictly followed in order to flash the board after it has been bricked some sites give a string which will probably work for non oem boards. The problem is that you need both the aflash.bat file along with a autoexec.bat file that both say the exact same thing on the floppy. Basically you create the autoexec.bat file by opening notepad and saving it as non txt file as autoexec.bat The autoexec.

bat will usually disappear on the floppy once you move it to there, but trust me its there, just hidden. Also you can use a external usb floppy drive like a did on this board, it will also work for a standard floppy drive, but make sure you know it reliable as they go out pretty easily. You will know the flash is working after it spins for a solid 3-4 minutes and then you can reboot manually. The bios I used for the Acer M1100 was R02-B1 as R01-A1 bricked my board originally, giving into my hypothesis that there are 2 revs of this board and Acer isn't letting people know this or Acer US realized this and won't release an updated bios with Europe will. Also people should not flash these series of M computers until we find out if there are in fact 2 revs of this board. All the reading and testing shows that the AMD 4400 x2 chipset is capable of HAV(AMD-V) but my Virtualbox software nor HyperPC will recognize the capability. Okay, so to the point. AMD claims on their site that the AMD-V is always enabled and will work when needed(I am not fully onboard to this explanation). The BIOS does NOT have any settings available for HET, VT, Virtaulization etc.
