Purchase this manual if you need more information about specifications, settings, or features of this item. I found this in Samy’s Cameras in Santa Barbara. There was quite a range of cameras in the rack, including a number of bellows cameras and SLR’s. I would have liked to have bought several different cameras, but I allowed myself only one as a souvenir of the trip. Per Cameraopedia: ”The Kodak No. 2A Folding Autographic Brownie was a folding camera for type 116 Autographic film. It was made by Canadian Kodak Co. Ltd in Toronto, Canada and in Rochester, NY, USA by Eastman Kodak Company. Comments are scratched into paper on the back of the film with a stylus and then exposed to the sun and burned onto the negative. “ I think it's beautiful. It is amazing to think that 120 film has been continuously made for well over 100 years.Indeed this camera even came complete with the box! There were basically just three focusing settings: fixed (i.e. normal), 8 feet (i.e. close) and 100 feet (i.e. distant). There was a metal flap on the back of the camera along with a metal stylus. When you pulled up the flap you revealed the backing paper of the film on which you could write with the stylus. (The stylus is usually missing, so I was please to see this camera still has one!http://www.greenczechvelkoobchod.com/UserFiles/clymers-motorcycle-repair-manuals.xml

) You then let the sun shine on the backing paper for 5 seconds or so before pulling the flap back down. When your pictures were developed you words would appear in white on your photographs. If you’ve ever seen white writing on photographs from the 1910s or 1920s, this is how it was produced. The action of the stylus on this layer removed the carbon which allowed the sun light to expose your writing onto the negative. All the others are severely fogged to one degree or another. But I like the effect any way. There are a few hints of fogging on this one that give the image a nice vintage feel. The film is Kodak T-Max 400, but I decided to scan it with my scanner set to colour mode as and just leave it as a colour file as I like the sepia effect this gives. This one (which was frame 6) is much more fogged than frame 4, but after processing the scan in Lightroom I found that under the fog there was actually quite a nice image. You can just about see a faint hint of an image under all the fogging. The red window through which you can see the film numbers printed on the backing paper as you wind on has faded to a pale shade of orange, and at the time I scanned this film I thought this must be responsible for the fogging. But that wouldn't explain the fogging over the whole frame. So I think the Autographic window must actually be responsible for most of it. So next time I run a film through this camera I'm going to tape up the both the exposure counter window and the Autographic window to see if that makes any difference. I have to admit this roll of film had been sitting at the bottom of my fridge for a long time, but I was still very surprised to see the printing on the backing paper transfer to the negatives. I really have never seen anything like this before or since.Several frames from this role of film were affected by fogging similar to the first film. In fact it was this film that gave me the idea that the Autographic window was involved.

Learn more - opens in a new window or tab This amount is subject to change until you make payment. It's actually in great condition on inspecting it except for the shutter. Do they generally just need cleaning or maintenance or I would I have to find a second Brownie for parts. Is this even possible. Does any one have experience with this. I'm sorry, I'm a newbie and not very handy. So, I'd need things fairly broken down if you are so kind as to provide a how-to. Thank you so much. CzenziThere were two Kodak No.2A Folding Brownies, a 2A Folding Autographic Brownie and a 2A Folding Pocket Brownie. The 2A Folding Pocket Brownie is the simpler camera, the case resembles a rectangular box when folded and the film is loaded through a sliding door in the back. Now the most common shutter to find on these cameras is the Kodak Ball Bearing shutter, this shutter is very reliable, but with excessive use they can simply wear out and they are not easily fixed at that point. Odds are there is simply dried lubricant in there, which a flush with some lighter fluid will clear, but you should be aware of the other possibility. The other thing to be aware of is that Kodak cameras of this era frequently suffer from deteriorated bellows which allow light to leak onto the film.

Some NOS bellows are available, but replacement is not an easy task for those not mechanically inclined. Assuming you have good bellows and the shutter can be made to work, the final issue is that by Kodak's nomenclature, a 2A Brownie takes 116 film, a format which is not readily available anymore. This leaves you to adapt another commonly available film format (like 120) if you want to shoot with it.I'll definitely have to practice loading it... Thank you for letting me know about the lighter fluid. I am aware that it may just be a very pretty display for my office. But, I would like to try to make it workable. The bellows is in good condition by sight. Once I get it, I'll look to see if any light gets through. My grandma was an upholsterer and I am comfortable enough with leather work to be able to patch things, but I have never worked on a bellows. Would patching be possible generally? (I know you can't see it). I read up on 116 film and have sourced the adapters and also the spools to use 120 film. I won't buy them until after I work on at least the shutter. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. Thank you.As to the bellows, they normally develop holes in the corners, which if small and few in number can be patched with a thin and flexible lightproof substance, liquid electrical tape is often recommended for this purpose. But, if too large or too many, the act of folding will open up new holes or reopen old ones, and replacement is the only further option.Thank you for the info. Much appreciated.Other sizes, like VP122, are harder to find, cost more, but still findable. To me, it is more fun to use the right sized film. If you want to use 120, there are plenty of 120 cameras around, including ones very similar to the one you have. Last summer, I went out with a Brownie 2F, which is a (brown) box camera that uses 120 film. I even had a roll of VPL in it, which is a tungsten balanced color negative film (that they also don't make anymore).

I also had rolls of TMax100 and TMax400 in it. The kit also includes 4 white round extenders that are needed if your camera is BOX Brownie Camera or similar. In these cameras the spool has to be of a specific diameter for a perfect alignment of the film advance mechanism with the spool’s hole. To couple the exagonal adapters with its round extensions, press them hard through the hole until they are perfectly aligned on the flat end (i.e. where there’s the metal part). This adapter will engage with the camera’s film advance crank. Turn the film advance knob 8 times (16 half turns) so that the film reaches the correct placing for the first photo. Put the key adapter on it and go shoot again. A little trial and error is to be expected. Usually the kits are shipped within a few days, but sometimes it takes a little longer: all kits are produced in small batches, assembled and tested one by one. Check the FAQ page for details. KODAK AUTOGRAPHIC BROWNIE NO. 2 FOLDING CAMERAPretty nice with some flaws. Optics nice.few specks of dirt.can see image. Snappy shutter with slight oxidation. Mechanisms and levers, operational. All graphics intact. Hinged film door is smooth with a couple scratches on hasp, and slight paint loss on edges. Rest of black enamel looks good. Straight functional brackets. Camera glides pretty good.when retracting I had to play a bit.not sure how I did it.the piece that depresses may be a bit stuck.once I got it, it slid back easily.could use oil. Clean film compartment with spool.functional hardware. Door snaps shut. Red window is good. Leatherette intact, pretty supple.door panel bottom edges have peeled up, and tips of upper corners slightly loose.glue should do the trick.the surface also shows some wear.
