I haven't pulled out the engine yet, where is the EGR system and how do I disconnect it? The system allows fresh air to be drawn into the exhaust system anytime the port pressure in the cylinder head is negative (exhaust velocity venturi effect or decel). A reed valve prevents the escape of exhaust gases should the port become pressurized. The system allows for complete combustion of any unburnt gases within the exhaust system. The system does not recirculate exhaust gases and should have no effect on engine performance other than the few ounces it weighs.;D If you plan on putting a performance (term used loosely read: noisy: exhaust system on your scoot then you'd want to remove the system and block this port to reduce the annoying decel popping it would cause. If the 80cc kit you are planning to install comes with a cylinder head it may not have this port flange cast into it or it may not be drilled. In either case just remove the cam cover tube and related components of the reed valve. Unless a wise dawg can splain me why I shouldn't I plan on leaving the system intact. My 72cc kit does not have the port for the tube, so I planned on stripping it all off.
The reed valve block is located near the carb, above the motor. Vernmiller - Hope this helps. FYI - haven't started the upgrade yet - won't be able to try it out until the snow is gone.
